Fairmont: Velora EP

Fairmont: Velora EP

Last fall, Jake Fairley [a] gave a refreshingly candid interview to the French website The Drone, calling out some of his peers—and speaking from personal experience—for “acting like dicks, chasing drugs and girls, all for the wrong reasons, and acting like superstars before they’re superstars. And even once they are superstars, I mean, nobody should behave like this. That’s already been done, you know? […] On the other hand, it’s completely rebellious to put young-people music in the context of a friendly and down-to-earth kind of philosophy.”

Fairley goes on to talk about the development of his own music, not just formally but also emotionally. You can get a sense for how far he’s come on his new EP as Fairmont [a] for Border Community [l]. The “Velora" EP features four lush, dreamy tracks that run from slow-motion shoegazing to Drexciyan techno and ought to appeal to fans of Luke Abbott and James Holden [a] (duh) as well as Walls, Prins Thomas [a], Bloody Mary [a] and her Dame Music label, and even the goth-infused sounds of Tri Angle and Blackest Ever Black.

Read on to check out the video interview and preview the EP.
