Exszenaration EP
Szenario [Leftroom Records]
13 February, 2008 | 2.33PM- Section: Music Reviews
Leftroom Records, the UK label spearheaded by DJ Matt Tolfrey, has been ever steadily flexing its muscles since its inception in 2005.
‘Sudoko Kid’, its biggest hit thus far, put the label on the map in early 2007, and their first label compilation later that year marked how far the outfit has come in helping to redefine UK techno.
‘Exzeneration’ is another leap forward.
A trio of vital club tracks that marries the peak time, dancefloor rinsing beats and breakdowns of ‘Pleaseasy’ and ‘Demeaner Vcall’ with the strange and warped, alien sounds of Raudive’s remix of ‘Pleaseasy’.
Raudive, London based Oliver Ho’s latest incarnation, has rapidly earned a reputation for delivering some of the scene’s most rapturously received records of late, starting with ‘Here,’ his 2006 floor filler that warped a child’s vocal with a tempo changing synth riff that became a staple part of the sets of all of techno’s biggest DJs.
Damian Lazarus has already snagged the ‘Pleaseasy’ mix for his latest Monza compilation, but for fans of visceral, shake the club to pieces techno, then the title track is one to covert.
