Exclusive Patric La Funk interview for House.Planet
28 November, 2007 | 11.11AM- Section: Music News
Born in Bochum, Germany in 1982, Patric has made a mark with his remixes for Mark Knight, Wally Lopez, Axwell, Angello, Dave Spoon, Sharam (Deep Dish), Moguai, just to mention a few, but also as a dj he spins the decks on a regular level and in his early years he was the resident dj in the legendary 18 karat club in Bochum before he took off to storm the dancefloors of the world. The name Patric La Funk stands for a wide aspect of house and electronic sounds and as Patric’s main project it combines groovy house beats and crisp electronic elements with progressive sounds to make an unmistakeable experience – that is not only heard in his productions or remixes, but also in his dj sets !
His second love, a soulful house project under the name of “Skydrive” (Housesession Rec.) is where Patric can show of his more vocal and melodic side of producing.
Thirdly, with long-time pal and production partner Timo Becker they form the team “Patric and Timo” (Superstar Records), which aside from their dj-team are probably one of the most adverse production teams in the industry at the moment. Therefore it is no wonder that old hands like Oliver Moldan, the Disco Boys, or newcomers like Dj Pearl come to them when they want new tracks produced.
Though it may seem like enough, Patric is still not at the end of his quest and his goal is to reach out to even more fans through his productions, remixes and dj-sets and his current labels: Opaque, Toolroom, Housesession, Compulsive and Superstar value his professionalism as an artist and the high quality of his art.
And so, his work in the studio and behind the decks will progress with fresh and innovative sounds, soon to be heard consolidated on his very own label “Trusted Trax”.
Hi, Patric. What can you tell us about your upcoming productions? The list is awesome:
Oliver Moldan & Patric la Funk - Good Fellas
PLF pres. Skydrive feat. Shena - It’s Alright
Skydrive feat. Linda Newman - I know better
Patric la Funk - Bonus / Malus EP
Fedde le Grand & Funkerman - 3min to explain
George Morel - Lets get crazy
Wally Lopez - Go ahead
Gold Ryan & Tapesh – Collapse
Granite – Zion
Yeah there is some new stuff… :-) As you have mentioned I try not to settle on one style of music. On our label Trusted I will release my next single EP Indigo, including 3 tracks and a George Morel remix. Further there will be a single together with my mate Oliver Moldan. Timo and me did some singles for him during the last month like Debbie does dishes or Club 69. So the time has come to release a track together. This is all more techi underground stuff. My Second project SKYDRIVE is more the big room melodic stuff. So there are not only the single “It’s alright” and “I Know Better” coming up soon, but also the “Keep Pushin” track with my mate DJ Pearl.
And as u sees there are some remixes for various artists :-)
When they will be released?
From December I think monthly…
What are your current favorite tracks?
It’s definitely collapse by Gold Ryan and Tapesh. That’s why Timo Becker and me signed it for Timbee :-)
What’s your attitude to this year Ibiza’s hit “Heater” by Samim?
Big Groove with a special Instrument. That’s what people like, BIG TRACK. Played it a lot.
How can you comment DJMag top100 results in this year? Why there are still not so many house djs as we wish?
In my opinion the guys who play the more classical “trance” stuff have a really well organized Internet fan community. That’s really important to get many votes.
Which place did you get? How many votes?
I’m still to unknown ;-) Don’t know how many votes - but Wally Lopez wrote something nice....
Where we can catch you in this New Year? Will you be playing somewhere?
My agency sushi2000 is doing a really good job… There are planed some tours abroad and of course gigs in Germany. I do not have my schedule right now, but it will be released asap on my myspace.com/patriclafunk
Are you planning to visit Eastern Europe (Baltic states or Russia, Ukraine) in next year?
Sure.... this will happen in 2008 for sure !
What was the best gig in this year for you?
My residency at an airfield in our area was really huge - approx 4000 people… it was the day when I play with Mark Knight. It really went off!!!!
That was fun!
