‘Equalized #002’ is the second in a series of releases from an as yet unnamed Hard Wax-affiliated producer.

Arriving almost a full year after its predecessor, #002 is centered around the same rough-and-ready aesthetics that placed ‘#001’ among the most highly sought after releases of 2008. 

Of the two cuts provided, ‘A’ stays far closer to the time-honoured techno blueprint. The charge is led by a metallic synthesizer scrape that sounds suspiciously akin to the sound used in the also anonymous ‘WAX 1001_2’ from last year (have you guessed who it is yet?). The track expands and contracts through a dense cloud of reverb while a perfectly paced bass line plays call and response with the serrated lead.

‘B’ on the other hand is a far more complex but no less dangerous beast. In what could probably be best described as a dubstep record masquerading as an early nineties hardcore track, ‘B’ has all the hallmarks of a standout future-classic. The timeless manner in which the celestial synths wraps themselves around the most interesting breakbeat to surface in recent memory simply needs to be heard to be believed.

Don’t be surprised if this release is being name checked in 12 months time as one of the best of 2009.
