EQTV: Border-hopping with James Holden
29 November, 2011 | 9.15AMThe good folks at Resident Advisor hipped us to EQTV’s video interview with Border Community boss James Holden, and we couldn’t resist a repost.
From his roots in the progressive house scene, Holden has become one of the most interesting figures in club music—experimental, idiosyncratic, and uncompromising, and also full of positive energy. As he points out in the interview, Border Community sits at the nexus of a number of different sounds, with an identity that’s more about a certain ideal than any particular style. “We’re happy to be free of the techno scene,” admits Holden, looking slightly knackered. “No offense, techno!” Check out the whole interview on EQTV here.
We profiled Border Community’s latest signing, Kate Wax, last week; if you missed it, be sure to check out her new album Dust Collision. And this week, Border Community released Luke Abbott’s ”Brazil” EP, featuring a new version of one of the standout cuts from his 2010 album Holkham Drones plus remixes from Gold Panda and Etienne Jaumet, along with an acidic new track, “Grumble.”
