LA Priest [Phantasy Sound]
14 February, 2008 | 1.12PM- Section: Music Recommendations
In between remixing Tracey Thorn, his Beyond The Wizards Sleeve project, selling t shirts and keeping kids dancing, Erol has now created his own record label.
As six billion Erol Alkan fans piss their pants in excitement and the masses start queuing to buy the record that the coolest man in indie electronica has endorsed, we’ll give this a month before it blows up to massive proportions.
The debut release is a belter from LA Priest (AKA Samuel Dust), vocalist and guitarist of UK band Late Of The Pier.
Originally played by Annie Mac on Radio 1 back in July, it’s all about the progression with this psychedelic monster.
Building from crude Tetris style computer noises into an orgy of electro futurism and then into an even bigger orgy of funky French disco, you scarcely know whether to make like a robot or a funky chicken.
Erol Alkan’s Transonic Re:Edit follows the same progression from psychedelic machine to funky bass slaps, but is more refined and arguably less edgy than the original.
Also, in case you were wondering whether Erol’s watched a couple of episodes of Art Attack and picked up some felt tipped pens, the amazing label artwork is courtesy of illustrators Will Sweeney and Susumu Mukai (also of Zongamin fame).
