Emotion EP
Compuphonic and Kolombo [Turbo]
9 October, 2007 | 7.36AM- Section: Music Recommendations
The three-track EP ‘Emotion’ is addictive, to say the least.
Take the track ‘Antimatter’ for example, one of three produced by Kolombo and Compuphonic.
This is built around a buzzing, staccato synth melody that flatters the ear and puts a big smile on your mug.
It’s arranged well – very dynamic – and as such survives repeated listening!
The lead tune ‘Emotion’ moves on from the former track with aplomb.
It’s a bit darker, but features a similarly lovable lead synth.
Just as you think you’ve got this track figured, it darts in a different direction, which shows just how ahead of the game its producers are.
So, in all, this one can be described as a marcher – one that’ll have you walking on the spot with your hands swishing by your side – because of its infectious beat and detuned lead.
Lastly, we have ‘Passing Light’, which sounds like a long-lost Kraftwerk track that has been discovered by aliens and brought back to life with the aid of strange extraterrestrial technology.
Its big analogue bassline drifts lazily up and down the chromatic scale like a fat, funky slug, and as it moves ever onward the listener is treated to cool sawtooth-wave arpeggiators and LFO’d Detroit pads.
