Roska Kick & Snares is an excellent name for a record label, especially considering label boss Roska sticks so closely to the theme.

Here on his ‘Elevated Levels EP’ there’s nothing to be found but solid-as-granite house loops, but the music is like a weird cross between speed garage, dubstep and house. No wonder then, that Roska is a proper Londoner and a former UK garage boy.

Roska’s drums are stripped back to their core elements, and the musical expressionism thrown on top of the beats is joyful on all three cuts.

‘Our Father’ is a melodic drum symphony with twinges of euphoria, ‘Gone To A Better Place’ is chunky head bopping house, and lead track ‘Elevated Level’ sounds like a cross between warbling dubstep and uptempo tech house. Simply sublime.

Let’s hope Roska has more mongrel house music for us in the future. Is that a new genre?
