Electronic Petz | SLOK Remix Contest

Electronic Petz | SLOK Remix Contest

Remix Slok [a]‘s tech house monster ‘deesgustocosmicow’ (previously supported by, among others, Hernan Cattaneo [a], DJ T, and M.A.N.D.Y) in this FOEM comp and get your track released on his Electronic Petz [l] label via Beatport, a Tsugi magazine compilation, plus loads of other neat stuff… Interested? Want to know more? Well, here, in a quick Q&A, Alessandro Russo (aka Slok) explains all…

How did you hook up with FOEM?

For a long time I’ve followed the work of this German platform. I like the various services that it offers to musicians and producers, and especially the remix contests…

They’ve previously organised competitions with the likes of Martin Solveig, Luke Slater, Rob Babicz, Rino Cerrone and Gabriel Ananda, and labels like Traumschallplatten, Soma, Boxer Recordings and Circle Music. And then, about two months ago, FOEM contacted me to see if I was willing to arrange a remix contest with my label, Electronic Petz.

So how does the competition work, and why should people enter?

The contest began on 1st June and will last for three months until the end of August 2009. During this time submissions will be accepted online at FOEM.

For the best remix there will be a release on Electronic Petz, next to loads of other prizes like radio gigs, radio interviews, a physical release on a Tsuga magazine compilation (30,000 copies), free tracks, and designer t-shirts by Real DC.

Please check out the official contest page at FOEM for more details about the runners up prizes, samples and submission rules.

In September, the remixes will be heard and winners will be named.

Basically, if you want to build your profile, a remix contest is one of the best ways to be heard directly by a label – something that doesn’t happen with many demos.

The important thing is that everyone will receive the proper attention in relation to his or her production.

Moreover, participants can meet and make contacts through the FOEM forum, while the winners will gain support, promotion and international visibility from the release itself - it’s a good way to get your name out there!

Tell us about the track ‘deesgustocosmicow’…

After a lot of work for third parties (like my double mix album Exploring Italy released on Baroque Records and my remix of Sharam Jey’s ‘In My Blood’ on King Kong Records), I finally decided to release a single on my own label, Electronic Petz.

‘Deesgustocosmicow’ is a fine deep tech house track, no doubt. Included in the package are remixes from top NYC DJ/producer Onionz, the hot Italian team Phonic.Lab, and a stunning techno remix by the Japanese duo Modewarp (Ko Kimura and Kazuaki Noguchi) from Futic Recordings, Tokyo.

This will be released soon, on 15th June, exclusively on Beatport!

When will the winner’s remix be released?

The best remix will be released exclusively on Beatport in October.

(Then, after eight weeks, it will also be available via other digital stores.)

What else is in the pipeline for Electronic Petz in 2009?

We simply want to extend our artist roster and continue to release and enjoy good quality electronic music.
