Electronic music’s hottest label hits Selfridges
4 August, 2008 | 7.31PMDance music and fashion have always gone hand in hand.
Now, however, Leeds-based designer label Electronic Poet are mixing the two up even further.
If you’re a regular in Ibiza or Sonar or have been raving at Asylum/Technique in Leeds you’ll have spotted an increasing number of DJs and ravers wearing Electronic Poet clothing.
The label is the brainchild of Steve Banks who along with original designer Asim Khan plied their favourite DJs and party professionals with samples of their clothes over two years to build the brand’s reputation.
The label launched properly earlier in 2008 and has been slowly finding its way into Europe’s coolest shops.
Many of the tee shirts in the first collection epitomise the connection between fashion and techno.
One designed by esteemed graphic designer Si Scott with the help of Mixmag’s techno editor and Bump resident Ed Karney plots a family tree of techno’s originators designed in the shape of a musical clef.
Another features a word puzzle with the name of London’s hottest Sunday party, Secretsundaze, hidden within a jumble of text.
Now Electronic Poet has cracked London’s bastion of fashion Selfridges, a mark of true label contention and are celebrating with three special in store parties with some of their favourite DJs at each branch of Selfridges in the UK.
The line-ups are as follows;
Saturday & Sunday August 2-3: Selfridges Oxford Street, London
Paul Woolford, Yousef, Disco Bloodbath DJ’s, James Hilard, Simon Morell
Saturday August 9th: Selfridges Manchester Exchange Square
Una Bombers, Andy Whittaker, Alex Morris
Saturday August 23rd: Selfridges Birmingham
Asam Shelton, Subb-An
