EC50’s ‘Jonestown’ gets remixed by Belgium’s finest

EC50 ‘s Jonestown was released on Coincidence Records [l] and immediately got lots of support from lots of great producers.

But it wasn’t until Laurent Garnier [a] used the track for his Resident Advisor podcasts that things picked up.

But also people like Hernan Cattaneo, Gel Abril, Gregor Tresher or Laura Heath effectively did their fair share to spread the EC50 gospel.

So the next stp obviously is to remix the thing, and staying true to the Belgian roots of the label, the four remixes are all by local bred artists.

First is Roebin de Freitas ( Curle Recordings [l], Miniatura ) who stripped the original version to the bare essentials and created a deep, melody driven version where the basskick is absent. Constantly changing string sounds really make it a moody work of art that will surely work well in the early hours - or in the beginning of a dj set.

Belgian dj Pierre ( Lessizmore [l] ) is simply put: a legend. With a dj career spanning almost two decades and having headlined every major event in Belgium ànd being the undisputed resident of legendary clubs such as Fuse or 55, he is beyond any doubt the most respected dj in the country. So when he agreed to do the remix, we were absolutely overcome with warm fuzzy feelings.
His remix shows exactly what he stands for: dark minimal sounds, seemingly laidback but with energy bubbling underneath the surface.

The third remix was done by young talent Steve Slight [a] . In the early days of Coincidence, he got his chance to do his first release ever and since then has had several succesful releases. He is a prodigy of Ramon Tapia (aka El Carlitto) so you can imagine how his approach sounds: think of Great Stuff mixed with some tekhouse and a break that has been tested and approved on dancefloors all over the country: the reactions in clubs like Illusion or Noxx were seriously impressive to say the least.

In Belgium, the Brussels club Dirty Dancing is considered one of the country’s best clubs. A record label, a slightly different musical approach, a friendly but firm door policy and a keen eye for talented dj’s has put it firmly on the clubbing map, and residents Cook-e & Matik have surely contributed heavily to the success of the club.
Together with their producing partner Friends Of Foo [a] (aka Jetset Hifi) they have come up with perhaps the most surprising mix of the package. The original was dark and heavy, but their mix throws that all overboard and aim directly at your feet with a elektro-house monster that really blasts away after a huge break. A perfect example of what a remix should be really: a different approach.

The Jonestown Remixes are exclusively available on Beatport.com and will also be available on the other download portals as of 6th December.
