EC50: ‘Jonestown’ Kool Aid Mixes on Forteana

EC50: ‘Jonestown’ Kool Aid Mixes on Forteana

When EC50 [a] posted their first tracks on the leading minimal board mnml.nl, the guys behind the Forteana label quickly realized that these were guys on the way to bigger things.

A few months later, the kool aid mixes of ‘Jonestown’ are available on Beatport and on the first sampler vinyl of the label.

EC50, a project by Dutch-based Adam Hamidat and Maximin Lavoo, are only just beginning.

When you hear the quality of their production it’s very hard to imagine that these two guys had only been making music for 1.5 years.

They just released their debut EP on Playground [a] (a sub of the Lessizmore label of Fuse dj Pierre) and that one went to the top 50 of the Beatport charts and was remixed by Belgian upcoming talent Tom Dazing.

So now this flying start is quickly followed by the release on Forteana: the Kool Aid Mixes of ‘Jonestown’.

There’s a serious resemblance with the beats and vibe to certain Radio Slave tracks, but what makes the track really hypnotising is of course the sinister voice of Rev. Jim Jones, who led his 972 followers in the Jonestown massacre to mass suicide by drinking Kool Aid laced with poison.

You can’t get more gloomy when it comes to inspiration…

In over ten minutes, EC50 really maxes out on building an atmosphere that’s guaranteed to be intriguing enough to listen to at home—and to set the dancefloor on fire.

The original mixes will also be released on Coincidence records, due for release in June.
