East St Louis Players are a brand new house music partnership hailing from Missouri, USA. Their first release, ‘Always On My Mind’, is a summery instrumental affair featuring live trumpet from fellow Mid-Westerner Jon Milsom which was quickly snapped up by UK label Lost My Dog Records. ‘Always On My Mind’ is the label’s first ever video release and features a budding cast of upcoming actors, directed by the chart-topping Loraine Ffrench.
An extensive promotional campaign has resulted in support from A-list DJs including Mark Farina, Laurent Garnier, Ian Pooley and Pacha’s DJ Linus, radio plays on Ministry Of Sound, Ibiza Global Radio, leading London pirate Point Blank 90.2 FM and Global Soul Radio, and confirmed reviews in influential magazines DJ Mag, iDJ and M8.
The East St Louis Players duo of Don Tinsley and Bernard Jones each achieved success as solo artists before teaming up in 2006. Together they bring their respective skills to the studio to create a blend of deep house with live musical elements. Bernard Jones also works closely with vocalist Aren B, who reached the finals of US talent show ‘American Idol’.
‘Always On My Mind’ is dedicated to Bernard’s girlfriend, Mandie Nichols, who sadly died in 2007 and was his biggest supporter.
The video is filmed in Loughborough, the Midland’s town most famous for its sporting University. It was in Loughborough that Lost My Dog Records was born in 2005 and so it seemed fitting for the first music video to be filmed there. A cast of upcoming actors was attracted including Zoe Cartwright, the deaf winner of Channel 4’s ‘The Shooting Party’, Raphael D’ascenzo, who has recently featured in a Levi’s campaign, Charlotte Poulton from the film ‘Goal 3’ and lead actress Charlotte Atkinson who has appeared in a number of independent films. The video was directed by Loraine Ffrench from F2R films whose previous successes include the ‘Midnight Madness’ documentary for Channel 4, scoring a number 1 video on MTV Base for 3 consecutive weeks with Kay B’s ‘Call Cupid’ and directing Skepta’s ‘In A Corner’ video.
Lost My Dog Records grabbed the attention of the world’s leading DJs, press and most importantly the record buying public from the very first release thanks to their fresh and unique approach to house music. Within their first year iDJ magazine had tipped the label as one of the “100 reasons why dance music still rules”, going further the following year to say that it was one of the “most exciting house labels to emerge from the UK recently”. DJ Magazine followed suit stating, ”this label has been one of the most inspiring over the year for me so far”. Lost My Dog releases range from deep house grooves, through Chicago influenced jackers, to acid and tech house floor rockers. Put succinctly by DJ Mag, “Lost My Dog release vibrant house music with balls of steel.”
