Franck Roger [City Deep Music]
12 September, 2007 | 12.47PMThere’s always a place in the murky world of production for the likes of Frenchman Franck Roger
.
Consistently outputting quality, organic house music via his own Real Tone Records and guesting on the likes of NRK and Sonar Kollectiv, it has always been refreshing to hear his musical approach to the often cold-hearted world of electronic music.
Halo’s City Deep Music
provides the bed to rest Franck Roger’s musical head on this occasion, where we find him full of summer cheer.
‘Dario’s Groove’ chugs, skips and stutters its way through a collection of carefully nurtured sounds and phrases.
There are sufficient percussive chirps and warm jazzy noodlings to evoke a feeling of a late summer afternoon, poolside.
‘Amazon Remedy’ towels itself off and shuffles in the direction of the dance floor.
There is an early blend of playful drums, serious strings and a circa ’97 Daft Punk bass line that initially seem to be mismatched.
Everything is put in its proper context though, when from the confusion our old friend the organ appears once more, blending the ingredients into a tasty, deep house stew.
These are the kinds of sounds Bob Sinclair used to peddle before he gorged himself on cheese.
Let’s hope this particular French producer resists the Camembert.
