Interview: Dumb Dan presents new radio show
23 September, 2008 | 4.17PMDumb Dan has been synonymous with infectious house productions and hip remixes.
As the head honcho for the successful Swedish label, Dumb Recordings and its subsidiaries, Dan strives to release innovative, fresh tracks that have helped set the trends in modern, state of the art dance music.
Now Dumb Dan is ready to take things to the next level with his new show: Twelve Bombs, premiering 25th September on Proton Radio.
So, Dan, a new show? What gives?
Well I thought it was time to share all the wonderful promos I’m receiving these days. A monthly show simply isn’t enough – there is so much wicked music out there!
Your fans are probably going to be very happy to have you pop by their bitloaded streams on a weekly basis, but how are you going to keep things fresh and the kids coming back for more?
Again, with the amount of forward-thinking releases hitting the shops every week - not to mention promos sent - filling an hour each week is no problem at all.
I’m making an effort to seek out new producers outside the mainstream, genre bending crossovers - and the odd bootleg of course.
With any luck that should keep listeners coming back for more!
How’s your show going to stand out from the other shows on Proton Radio, which probably has the highest standards in the scene?
First of all, I aim to let the show reflect both my personal style when producing but also what I like to listen to myself. If I manage to keep the integrity then I think that will shine through.
Also the listeners can be sure my focus is on upfront material - the tracks on Twelve Bombs will be stuff you can’t find anywhere else.
You’re famous for you retrospective inclinations rooting back to disco and early 80’s house music. Is that a trend you see happening and gaining momentum?
Well, dance music has always been about re-hashing the past, hasn’t it? But yeah, I think probably more now than in a while the past is important. Producers and DJs will look for depth and warmth with musical references to the past when the minimalism starts feeling a little too cool for comfort.

So, boiled down, we can expect the freshest squeeze of audio to be injected into our ears on a weekly basis starting 25th of September, Twelve tracks at a time over the course of 60 minutes!
