Dubfire ‘Ribcage’
Dubfire ‘Ribcage’
24 September, 2007 | 10.45AMLoco Dice and Martin Buttrich kick off their new label with a quality release from Dubfire
, one of the producers behind Deep Dish. In the last few months the Washington-based producer has made a concerted and vociferous attempt to move away from the progressive house sound that him and his studio partner Sharam Tayebi are famous for.
Dubfire was always the more underground-centric of the two, and now it seems he has discovered a darker, more experimental edge that dips its toes in techno, minimal and tech house.
A year or two ago no one would have guessed that the Deep Dish man would have a track out on a label run by Loco Dice and Martin Buttrich.
But listening to ‘Ribcage’, one can see why Loco Dice and Buttrich are fans.
It has a tight monotonous techno groove that underpins a cluttering lead synth. It chugs and wobbles with an undefined quantization giving a sense of urgency and space.
Like all good minimal, despite its simplicity it is cleverly produced and keeps evolving.
This is a true techno gem that builds and builds with unstoppable force.
