Drum and bass goes electro house
4 August, 2008 | 12.52PM- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
Drum & bass is renowned for being influenced by other contemporary genres, borrowing pieces from other musical works and leaning heavily into different scenes.
More recently there has been a trend of merging drum & bass and electro house.
DJ Fresh’s most recent offering for the summer, ‘Gold Dust’ was produced with this intention in mind.
Forthcoming on his label Breakbeat Kaos, ‘Gold Dust’ is another evolution in his production style.
Borrowing from the style and sounds of leading electro house producers such as D. Ramirez, the track includes big, club-sounding synth stabs and crisp production work.
Fresh isn’t alone in this trend.
Last year I was sent a couple of unreleased electro house tunes produced by RAM’s Chase & Status.
Hard-edged US producers; Evol Intent have been making electro house now under their Computer Club alias.
Stand out track ‘Weird Science’ on Danny Byrd’s debut album breaks down half way through into a thumping 4/4 track.
Sub Focus has been moving away from standard drum & bass styles and trying to incorporate techno and electro house styles into his new album, quoting Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath and Vangelis as major influences.
Recent release, ‘Join the Dots’ is a clear example of old skool synth lines, electro house style structured with a big drum & bass beat.
