Beatport Sean’s drum and bass classic artillery

There’s something to be said for the classic tracks we’ve all grown to love. They’re time-tested. They’re reliable. They get an instant reaction if rinsed in the right climate. You can search high and low for the next dancefloor killer, but classics have an insurance policy attached. Even an all-dubplate mix session can score extra points with the crowd when you unleash that familiar bassline.

Those overplayed and abused tracks of the years past have settled into a special dust that with one good blow should enlighten your set. Take DJ Zinc’s ‘Super Sharp Shooter’. I heard this track about six months ago right smack dab in the middle of a dubstep set and it had every DnB familiar in the room shouting letters in unison with hands in the air. Equally as likely to turn up the heat and strike the same chord are tracks like Mickey Finn and Aphrodite’s ‘Bad Ass’, Adam F’s ‘Original Jungle Sound’, and the string of other anthems that rocked the house back in the day.

No matter the age, we’re all slaves to nostalgia in one way or another. It’s shaped our tastes and led us down the road we travel now. The classics bring you back in time, manifesting feelings or memories of where you were when you first heard the Prodigy’s ‘Charly’ (possibly in the womb) or even something as new in the classic realm as Kromestar’s ‘Kalawanji’. Jog back through your memory banks for your own definitions of a classic and reinforce your arsenal. Slay the crowd and they’ll love you for it.
