Reverberating bass filled melodies, downtempo dub and sub-aquatic themes are what can be heard on Evan Marc’s newest release, called ‘Dreamtime Submersibles’ out on Thoughtless Music. 

‘Hypnopomp’ and a few other tracks on this album feature atmospheric guitar by System 7’s Steve Hillage, which add ambiance to the sound, creating a peaceful atmosphere which is filled out by romantic dub techno.

Ever-sophisticated, Evan Marc’s album is poised to be a hit in many places – in DJ sets, at the dinner table, or perhaps the ultimate driving tunes.

One can even imagine a film soundtrack or TV commercial featuring his music.

We sat down with Evan Marc and here’s what he had to say:

What aspects of non-waking life are you fascinated with?

I have extremely vivid dreams, and often wake up and remember 5-10 dreams in full detail from the night. 

I’ve been having more and more intense dream space including lucid dreams, so I wanted to explore that particular aspect of consciousness.

Is there a journey that you intended your album to take the listener on?

The album should be like a slow ride from waking consciousness into dreaming and back again.

What techniques and technology did you use to compose this album?

I composed this album with Cubase, lots of Native Instruments plug ins and a Kyma system. 

Steve added his organic glissando and underwater guitar textures in his studio in the UK and sent those layers back to me to composite into the final recording.

Which artists are you digging lately?

I think BVDUB is really good. 

I’m enjoying the new Kelley Polar. 

Noah Pred, Stewart Walker, Anders Ilar, and David Last all stand out to me.
