‘Dooms Night’ remixed again

Azzido Da Bass (German DJ Ingo Martens and songwriter Stevo Wilcken) first released ‘Dooms Night’ back in 1999 to tie in with the Berlin Love Parade.

It fared well on the German pop charts, but it wasn’t until Timo Maas remixed it that its popularity rocketed and it was catapulted into the top 10 of the UK charts.

‘Dooms Night’ returns for a third time on Kontor Records with new mixes from Radio Slave, Switch, Crookers, Laidback Luke, Lexy & K-Paul and Azzido Da Bass himself.

I use the word new lightly, as I know that the Switch mix is at least two years old.

That said, it’s still up there as one of his best, using those trademark cut ‘n’ chop techniques to great effect.

Laidback Luke goes for a more four-to-the-floor approach, and Radio Slave extends things to the max to create greater tension in the track’s retooling.

‘Dooms Night’ was one of the first of the millennium’s true club hits to break from the underground to the mainstream, and despite taking the best part of 18 months in the process, was all the better for the longevity.

This set of mixes adds much to what’s gone before, and while they’re now styled more towards what’s happening on today’s dancefloors, the Timo Maas Remix from back-in-the-day still takes some betting, and sounds remarkably ahead of its time, even by today’s standards.
