Documenting c/o pop

Elenko Elenkov is a videographer from Sofia, Bulgaria. Every year since 2008, he’s created a video diary of his time at the c/o pop festival in Cologne, and this week he released the 2010 installment.

It’s not your usual festival coverage: DJ performances and crowd shots are interwoven with incidental footage of empty spaces, sound checks, alleyways, and downtime. It’s a beguiling little film, bearing little in common with the adrenalinized stereotype of the festival at full blast. But for anyone who’s ever followed a music event to a strange city and found herself wandering off the beaten path, it brings back plenty of familiar sensations.
