djAid: A new concept for good music
djAid: A new concept for good music
4 June, 2008 | 8.49AMWe expect to get ripped off at music events on essentials like water, but that $5, 16-ounce bottle may be worth more than you even know.
After a few sweaty, dance-filled hours, aren’t you just incredibly grateful to have such a life-giving elixir hitting your parched lips?
Unfortunately, it’s not so easy for several million people to find clean drinking water.
Inspired by direct work with the United Nations in some of the world’s poorest countries, the founders of djAid aim to raise awareness and funds from electronic music events to support water projects in the developing world.
Governed by a set of simple, humanistic principles and determined to prove that the electronic dance scene is “not just a bunch of mindless, self-centered hedonists who don’t care about stuff that happens during daylight hours in the real world”, djAid collaborates with promoters, venues, record labels and corporate water companies to raise funds for the millions of people who go every day without access to clean water.
Additionally, djAid intends to raise the public profile of the music industry as a force for good and as a vehicle to bring about positive change, while also holding good events and and having fun.
djAid’s launch party was held at the AKA bar in London last November, with DJs Rocky, Chris Bones, Simon Kurrage and more showcased.
Over £779 after operating expenses was generated for the charity WaterAid which, though not a superfluous amount, is enough to begin to make a difference.
Two more events are lined up for 31st July and 30th October at the same venue, with DJs Serge Santiago and Dan van Damn already confirmed.
Check out their website for further information and ways to contribute to the cause.
