DJ Pinch launches Tectonic Plates Vol 2
18 May, 2009 | 11.32PMBristol dubstepper DJ Pinch is responsible for the low rumble that has been echoing around his hometown of late, being the first to introduce dubstep to the city and working non stop to spread the word. He set up the label in 2005, and within a few short years it has become one of the most renowned dubstep imprints on the planet, right up there amongst Tempa, Hyperdub and DMZ. With a firm intent to push the sound forward, the label has brought the styles of dubstep and dub-tech to global audiences with an authenticity that leaves many of its imitators lagging behind.

With a firm intent to push the sound forward, the label has brought the styles of dubstep and dub-tech to global audiences with an authenticity that leaves many of its imitators lagging behind.
The party at The Arches on Friday 22nd May, as part of the We Fear Silence project, marks the launch of Tectonic Plates Volume 2 - a crowning double CD collection featuring productions from the likes of Benga, Skream, Loefah, Digital Mystikz, Distance, Flying Lotus, 2562, Martyn, RSD, Peverelist, Joker and much more. The first disc comprised of the entire imminent, and as yet unreleased, four part 12” vinyl ‘Plates’ series in all its glory, and the second an exclusive mix from Pinch which brings together highlights and unreleased tracks from the label’s increasingly impressive roster.
For the night, Pinch has pulled together a line-up to make dubstep fans go weak at the knees, with 2562, Joker, Distance, Jamie Vex’d, Peverelist, Cyrus (Random Trio), Moving Ninja, Hijak, Dusk & Blackdown all spinning the main room. The Arches spanking new NEXO GEO soundsystem is perfect for bass heavy sounds, expect it to be tested the limit! Hosting the main room are SGT Pokes, Crazy D, MC Dread.
In room 2, Bleep.com, the award-winning Independent music store, presents a stellar line up of bass, beats and wonk from the freshest wave of young producers plucked from Paris and London. Headlining is the frighteningly gifted Floating Points, followed by Musique Large’s Debruit coming in especially from France (8-bit dubstep insanity) who will be doing an incredible live set with the MPC trigger-finger at the ready. Add to this, the dual force of One Handed Music’s beat-warriors, Bullion and Paul White. Transmitting from the underground are Rinse FM’s Alex Nut and Bleep DJ’s keeping the beats rolling into the small hours.
Room 3 is hosted by Future Thinkin, whose deep, dark, diverse and soulful D&B music has made them the number one show on longstanding pirate station Origin FM. They ran seminal D&B night Traffic for six years, including hosting two one off parties at The Arches back in 2007. For the 22nd May Danny Exile will be going back to back with long time DJ partner DM C.U.T. They will be joined by Escher, who’s current release Austere / Slice has been attracting widespread praise, plus Bristol based Eveson, who’s released on Doc Scott’s 31Records imprint and is next on the Future Thinkin rosta with Dirty Habits / Anywhere Anytime due out in this month. Room 3 will be hosted by MC Shylo, the driving force behind Future Thinkin, having been one of the founding members of the organisation back in 1997.
So there you have it – three rooms of some of the most forward thinking sounds from some of the most innovative collectives out there. We defy you not to find something to open your mind and your ears!
