DJ Dan: InStereo interview
DJ Dan: InStereo interview
7 November, 2007 | 10.36AMWe caught up with DJ Dan
for a quick update on his record label InStereo.
When you sign tracks to your label, what are you’re looking for?
InStereo is first and foremost about promoting music that I stand behind and confidently play in my DJ sets.
It been an amazing tool to promote upcoming producers that I believe in and the sound that I see moving forward.
The bottom line is that I’ve always liked dirty funky shit.
If it excites me, then I know it’s going to excite my fans and the dancefloor.
How would you say that InStereo stands out from other dance labels?
InStereo’s main focus is quality over quantity.
We’re not looking to saturate the market with mediocre dance music.
We’re very picky about the tracks that we release.
Most importantly, we’re not trying to fit to a specific mold.
It doesn’t matter if it’s electro, house, techno, or breaks.
All we want to do is promote party music.
We want DJs to be able to take our music to any party and tear the roof off that bitch.
How has InStereo changed since ‘Put The Record Back On’ came out in 2001?
As many people know, InStereo is now available digitally for the very first time.
InStereo has been around for a while but my tour schedule hasn’t allowed me the time to do much with it in past year.
I now have a competent team of people working with me at my record label helping me create a world-class label.
Within the past few months we have been signing tracks and commissioning remixes that I feel are going to knock peoples’ socks off.
Myself and many other DJs have tested them out and they’re all heavy-hitters.
We’re also looking forward to pushing the envelope when we release some tracks that were produced by some up and comers in the indie rock-electro scene here in LA so stay tuned.
What artists is your label currently working with?
Some of the artists that are producing tracks are Mike Balance, Joey Mazzola, DJ Kue, Travis T., Michael David & Tyler Blake (Indie Rock Electro duo), and myself.
Some of the remixers that we are working with are Wolfgang Gartner, Coburn, Hatiras, Phonat, Plug & Play, DJ Kue, and myself.
When you are going to release some of your own material?
I have five new singles lined up. Keep your eyes and ears open for the first three which will be ‘N20’, ‘Chop Shop’ and ‘Illectrolingus’.
I will also be remixing most of the tracks that will be released on InStereo.
Any plans to do InStereo events in the near future?
We’re very excited to establish the artists on our label and to showcase their sound.
Fortunately, many of these producers are excellent DJs as well.
We’re planning on doing some InStereo profile parties in the near future.
