Holidays are supposed to be occasions for collective celebration, but for one in particular, results, as they say, may vary. I’m talking, of course, about Valentine’s Day.

It’s awesome if you’re in L-U-V, but members of the Jilted Generation are likelier to sneer at the commercialism of it all - it’s just an excuse to sell greeting cards, right? - and head to the club to drown their sorrows (and, just maybe, find a last-minute playmate).

With that in mind, we’ve put together not just a single, one-size-fits-all Valentines DJ chart, but six uniquely themed charts (see below) - one for just about every mood and/or relationship status. 

For you swooners and crooners, ‘Ah, To Be In Love’ speaks for itself: you’re standing on top of the world, garlanded with flowers and serenaded by love birds.

For those wallowing in the depths of despair, there’s ‘For Broken Hearts.’ You might even send this one as a gift to your ex: with tracks like ‘So This Is Goodbye,’ ‘You Used to Hold Me’ and ‘Never Want to See You Again,’ he or she ought to get the point right away.

If you’re emo and you know it, wring your hands: ‘A Different Mood Entirely’ draws on woozy, heartfelt classics from the likes of Superpitcher, Joakim, and Four Tet to set the perfect mood for unrepentant romantics. Follow it up with a glass of port and the collected works of Keats, Byron and Shelley.

‘Chemical Generation Lovers’ is a weird, woozy soundtrack for darkrooms, smudged lipstick and scrawled phone numbers found stuffed in your pocket the next morning.

‘Songs For One Night Stands’ is a good bet if you’re staying in with a special someone - or plan to come home with someone new. As with condoms, it’s not a bad idea to have this one tucked away somewhere convenient, just in case…

Finally, ‘Liquid Drum & Bass Hits’ goes out to all the loved-up junglists, for whom there’s no contradiction between 160-BPM breaks and whispered sweet nothings.
