DJ chart: House music’s David Morales
26 January, 2010 | 4.06AMNew York City’s house music linchpin David Morales
is one of the world’s most prolific dance remixers, having retouched everyone from Michael Jackson, to Whitney Houston, U2, Arethra Franklin, Madonna, and the Spice Girls.
Alongside Larry Levan, he played at New York’s most important house music institutions during their heyday, including the Paradise Garage, The Loft, and The Sound Factory, and as a producer he is responsible for some of house music’s most endearing anthems including 1998’s ‘Needin U’, and the later ‘How Would U Feel’.
Morales’ unique DJ style has earned him a reputation for being a master of soulful house, and with a remix discography that rolls on, and on, you’ll find plenty of examples of his uplifting dancefloor work.
It is with great excitement then, that we present to you, David Morales’ first ever DJ chart on Beatport. Click through to check it out.

As expected, it’s packed full of cheering house anthems and diva-led grooves, the kind of elevating rhythms that made Morales one of house music’s biggest stars.
Topping his DJ chart is Seige’s remix of Laidback Luke and Gregor Salto’s ‘Shine Your Light’, a vocal-led house smash from late last year. With its singalong moments, and catchy house hook, it’s the kind of sound Morales became famous for.
There are other house nuggets of this magnitude too, such as Roy Rox, Daniel Bovie, and Haze’s ‘Preacher’, Oscar G.’s mix of Lisa Pure ‘Can’t Say No’, and Shana ‘Out’ on Tribe Records, as well as a couple of surprises.
Radio Slave’s hypnotic loop ‘Orchestrating Maneuvers In The Dark’ could be said to be an update to the tribal house microcosm of New York in the late 90s, and Mark Knight and Koen Groeneveld’s ‘Put Your Hands Up’, shares more than a passing resemblance to mainroom house anthems circa 1994, even though it’s wrapped up in a contemporary digital bow.
For true house music fans, David Morales’ chart is enough to make you want to dance on the ceiling.
