Dirty South & Paul Harris Interview

Dirty South & Paul Harris Interview

One of the biggest tracks to have emerged after Miami’s annual Winter Music Conference is Paul Harris [a] and Dirty South’s ‘Better Day’.

The buzz behind this happy electro house record is building up massively, especially after Pete Tong made it his ‘Essential New Tune’.

But the track itself was a piece of piss to make, according to the two producers.

“There was no plan, Dragan and I are good friends and I had a day or so free on my tour in Melbourne,” says Britain’s Paul Harris.

“So we went into the studio had a few ice creams and next thing ya know it was done.

“It was the only two days it was hot during my stay in Melbourne so it better have been worth the effort!”

Frustrated producers out there will probably be a bit annoyed at the lack of effort the boys put into ‘Better Day’.

But for Paul Harris and Dirty South [a], creating hit dance records has been something they’ve both been building towards for many years.

“When I was in high school, I rehacked my school computer at home with some audio programs and started making beats for fun,” revealed 28-year-old Dragan Roganovic aka Dirty South.

“Soon after I bought some serious equipment and I got really serious about making music.”

Paul Harris too has been making tunes since practically the dawn of time.

“I started to make music around 1994, and haven’t looked back since,” he tells us.

“I make a whole heap of different kinds of music, just check Beatport.

“I’ve made tech house with Audiofly on Rekids, vocal house on Toolroom.

“I wake up, I make a track, I go back to bed.”

So why do they think ‘Better Day’ stands out?

“It’s a very simple hooky song, that has a balance between nice melodies and a great groove,” replies Dirty South.

Harris agrees, “It’s simple, hooky and works on the dancefloor.”

With major support from Mark Knight, Dubfire (who apparently begged for a dub version of the track), Tom Novy, Trophy Twins and Tongy, you can be sure that ‘Better Day’ will be one of the biggest tunes of the year.
