Back in April, Stones Throw Records announced a free-form video contest to celebrate the label’s 15th anniversary. Entrants were asked to pick any song from the catalog and submit any type of original video they pleased. The deadline closed on July 1, and at the end of this month, the label will announce the winner, says Peanut Butter Wolf, “taking into consideration view count, comments, and most importantly which video I like best.”

We were particularly taken with James McMillan’s animated short for “Lightworks,” by the late, great J Dilla—a tune that sketched the blueprint for the whole Brainfeeder aesthetic, as Kevin Martin (aka The Bug) astutely noted on Twitter.

You can find “Lightworks” on Dilla’s Donuts, a 31-track album released just three days before he passed away in 2006 at the age of 32.
