Interview: Argentina’s Romanthronics

Interview: Argentina’s Romanthronics

In this era of the digital download, dance music is disseminated quicker than ever worldwide, and one region that is quickly gaining ground due to this ever-growing digital market is the Latin American region.

With labels and artists releasing music out of Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil, the dance scene in Latin America has evolved to become a key player in the digital and party world.

Symphonic Distribution’s SymBlog took some time to catch up with one of the artists and labels that represent the Latin America region so that the worldwide fanbase can get a taste of what it is like for a new artist and label trying to make it in an ever changing region.

Check out the interview with Argentina’s Romanthronics after the break.

Symphonic: Let’s get right down to it, who are you, who do you represent, and where are you from?

Romanthronics: I am a 25-year old producer and label owner that began his own label out of the lack of support and knowledge from many labels that I contacted initially.

I thought that I could do this and did a lot of research to develop a good business plan, marketing plan, and release schedule, and began my own label based out of Argentina, called Trident Music.

I am very happy and honored to have my music sold on Beatport.com because I feel like I not only represent myself and my artists, but my country.

What is the dance scene like in Argentina?

Like many industries, the scene in Buenos Aires, Argentina is very tough.

If you are an independent artist without an agency, you basically have to work extra hard to get out there (nothing that is groundbreakingly different from any other region).

The only currently attractive DJs are big name DJs, while parties with locals are still on the rise because of the lack of knowledge and ethic that goes into throwing a legitimate show.

With you being an up and coming producer and DJ, what do you recommend for others that are beginning to produce and begin their own label in a different region like Argentina?

I think if you work hard and be consistent in the product that you release, you should find moderate success.

Of course, the product has to be good.

I also recommend PROMOTING (and yes in capital letters!).

It’s the only way to get out there and there are many cost effective methods if not, free methods of getting your music out there.

How many labels (that you are aware of) are releasing music on digital sites such as Beatport.com in your region?

Well, in my region there are a lot of digital labels.

One of the more important labels in specific is Istmo Records which is located in the Latin America region.

This label constantly puts out great music and they have great artists such as Santiago Nino [a] and Heatbeat [a].

I think as time goes on, you should expect to see more new and talented artists coming out of here.

Are there any problems within your government that stops certain parties from occuring?

Hmm..  Well, to be honest… things are very laid back here.

The only thing that has changed is that the parties end around 8 or 9am.

Crowds usually go to after parties after that.  Before, we didn’t have parties end until 11am-12pm.

What DJ is a popular DJ in the country of Argentina? Do you have any favorites?

I think the most popular Argentinean DJ is Hernan Cattaneo [a]. My favorite of Argentina is Facu Cruz [a] and he is one artist that is available on Beatport.

What style of music do you feel will one day “rule” the region that you live in?
Well, now the music is based on 50% house and 50% trance.

But I think minimal and electro are growing faster these days, so with no doubt these genres will be at the top here.

What do you dislike about the scene in Argentina?  And what would you do to change that?

One thing I dislike is that many promoters and DJs think only about the money and not the foundation of what music is.

Many promoters just charge extreme prices or bring in DJs and take the fun out of it.

I would throw parties with less glam but make it more appealing to new faces and fans of the music; this way they can come back over and over.
