Deurun Presents - Deep Future

Deurun Presents - Deep Future

Deep future is the production and performance of electronic music. All tracks are written and recorder by one solo artist Brian Durkin

1. Hi Brian, can you introduce yourself in a few words?

My Name is Brian Durkin and I’m a music Producer/Dj from the west of Ireland going under the name Deep Future.

2. At what point did you decide you wanted to start working on production?

I started Producing house music back in the early 90’s.. I started by experimenting with synth’s and then going on to train as a professional sound engineer. Mixing these two love’s gave me that professional edge I always desired.

3. What are your primary tools for production?

My primary tools of production are my synth’s.  A love of Korg & Roland. I always start some sort of groove there and them move over to Ableton.  Its at this point of mixing the 2 that i begin to feel where the track is going.

4. When you start a new track, what ignites you?

I always try to start a track with some sort of catchy groove or loop, been either a sample or something from my synth’s but its not until i begin to program the percussion till it begin to take shape . So often I will just start from scratch if it loses its momentum.

5. Do you produce music specifically for your sets?

I normally try to produce a track that I can play out in my live sets but not always. If i feel a nice deep melodic track I will go with that. Music is my passion and I respect all types and love to explore all areas .

6. Does not playing live leave a creative void?

For me it does. As a producer I need the feel of playing out live to learn what parts of a track are most appreciated on the dance floor. Playing your own tracks out live is the only true test you will get and the feeling of success is the fuel for your next production. Its what makes it worth while.

7. How did you get hooked up with Deurun Records ?

I received a mail on Soundcloud from Headcruse expressing interest in my music and i had always been a fan of the label so I decided to offer them my next production “Candle Light”.

8. Who are some of your current favorite producers and DJs?

Current favorite producer is Mikalogic [a]. I think this guy is a creative genius. I really enjoy his style and tracks.

9. How do you go about making a remix?

I really try to capture as much of the original parts as possible . I will open all the loops and delete one by one the parts which don’t interest me. Its at this point i will try to put the Deep Future signature onto the remix. I always try to catch at least 3 of the elements of which people have come to expect from Deep Future , “Deep Funky Grooven Melodic Tech House Music.”

10. Can you share a production tip with our readers?

Always save your work in stages .. Its so easy to make a track worse the more you work with it. Its a good idea to record a clip and monitor each sections as you go along to see that your going in the right direction..

11. What does music mean to you?

Music is my life . The only thing I truly enjoy in this world is making music ... the rest is just filling in the gaps.

Deep Future is suported by:  John Digweed, Anthony Pappa, Dubfire, Omid, Kosmas Epsilon, Laurent Garnier, Andy Mac, Alexander Fog, James Lavelle, Chris Fortier, Daniele Davoli, Blank & Jones, Sucmfrog, Richie Hawtin, Satoshi Tomiie, X-Press 2, Fernando Picon, Jerome Robins, Mike Hiratzka, Mikalogic, Nuno Rozz, RJ Pickens, Treasure Fingers , Pixelbreak , Raymundo Rodriguez.
