You’ve arrived in Detroit for Movement: Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival.

You’ve heard lots of things about the city that seems to breed confusion on many levels within the media and public opinion.

But you’ve yet to see for yourself what it all means.

What much of the world doesn’t know is what you’re about to find out — that Detroit is rich with an underground culture that’s fit for only the purest of hearts and the most adventurous of souls.

Detroit is a social study in itself, especially when it comes to its subculture.

One of its primary cultural exports is music — with techno featured prominently in relatively recent days.

In this ‘Detroit Techno Tourist’ series, we’ll give some pointers for those sojourning to the techno mecca that remains cloaked in a shroud of mystery.

Undoubtedly this will be limited at first, especially when it’s considered that techno is just one of many music forms to have emerged from Detroit.

So as you read and follow along, feel free to add your own reminiscences and tips for those that may be new to the city’s streets.

We’ll keep building on the series for years to come.
