Denki Groove’s new single ‘Mononoke Dance’

Denki Groove’s new single ‘Mononoke Dance’

Denki Groove [a] has just released their big new single called ‘Mononoke Dance’ yesterday, February 14th in Japan.

Why is it big? Because they are the biggest techno act in Japan, and the song is used for the opening of a TV show called Hakaba Kitaro, an animation of a horror comic written by the legendary Shigeru Mizuki.

Denki Groove (Takkyu Ishino and Pierre Taki) may not be a big name outside of Japan, but they have been around since 1989 and are the most influential techno group to this day. They were the first, and arguably the only group who succeeded in taking the authentic techno sound to the Japanese mainstream music scene - with a great sense of humour.

Japanese techno scene could not have been what it is now without them.

On the other hand, Hakaba Kitaro is a new, much talked-about TV show as well. It’s an alternative version of Shigeru Mizuki’s extremely famous and popular comic called Gegege No Kitaro, and it’s designed for adults. Hence the story and the characters are a lot darker and meaner than the original.

The program has been on the air every Thursday night from 12:45am since this January.

Check out the artwork! It’s Mr. Mizuki, the author, who provided the artwork for this single, who included Takkyu Ishino and Pierre Taki in the drawing among his characters.

The single is available from Sony Music Japan, and the first pressings come with a complimentary sticker!
