Daso’s ‘Det’ evolves into a sleeper deep house hit

Daso, Pawas [Spectral Sound]

Looking for this year’s deep melodic masterpiece?

German up-and-comer Daso [a] and collaborater Pawas [a] have delivered one of the year’s catchiest, if not one of its most subtle, tech house big tunes with the irrepressibly haunting ‘Det.’

Cologne-based label Traum has been responsible for some of the underground’s most innovative – and somewhat - kooky artists in recent years.

The nature-loving Domink Eulburg is the name that probably springs to most techno geeks’ minds when pressed to name their favourite Traum star.

Daso (also a big fan of the woods unsurprisingly) has thrown up his own moments of genius on Traum’s collective of labels in his short but impressive career so far (check out his debut ‘Daybreak’ for proof).

‘Det’ however is signed to Ann Harbour, Michigan’s Spectral Sound and is one of his best releases yet.

The track’s charm is based around a swooning, warped synth hook that weaves and slides its way through nine minutes of bass heavy futuristic melody.

It may have been released in March but at a time when music is becoming more and more disposable and tracks are here today and gone tomorrow, the real gems prove themselves by staying in contention long after their release date.

‘Det’s’ longevity is already proving the track’s worth as it’s becoming a fixture in the sets of DJs like tech house legend Clive Henry.

The hook begins meshed with the bassline setting a deep melancholic mood before unravelling itself as the track progresses.

It’s backed by an ever-impressive remix by France’s excellent Schatrax and a rocking b-side ‘Brazil To Detroit.’

Despite their quality, both are still understudies to the release’s lead track.

‘Det’ is a simple yet mesmerising piece of songwriting that will captivate clubs like Ibiza’s DC10 or London’s Secretsundaze all summer long.

It might not have a big dancefloor smashing breakdown or a catchy vocal but like Bookashade’s ‘Body Language,’ we’re betting by the end of a summer of sunsets and lost-in-the-music terrace moments, it’ll be one of Ibiza’s most played tunes.
