Dark Morning EP
Dark Morning EP
Adam Marshall [New Kanada]
11 October, 2007 | 12.10PMThe ‘Dark Morning EP’ is a praiseworthy shot at deep House fame from Adam Marshall
on his Toronto based New Kanada
label.
The ‘Original’ is depth and warmth to the fullest, ideally served late summer around dusk.
The track comprises of few musical sections, although what is on offer sits comfortably together for the duration.
A lush organ sound is allowed to flow freely between the beats and bass that merely provide it with the foundations to do its thing.
What you’re left with is an uncomplicated number that evokes a mood of quiet reflection, rather than attempting to overwhelm the listener.
Basic Soul Unit’s version is far more to the point.
A clubbier treatment is applied to the retained elements, with the organ re-structured into snappily, delayed stabs.
A single, sustained laser rave note typifies the mix until out of nowhere a huge, granular acid line surfaces.
The part is fine by itself but the track becomes disjointed there after as a result of its introduction.
Brennan Green’s mix is disco all over, to the point where it actually sounds like a cover; if a DJ were performing a live mix between Donna Summer and the ‘Dark Morning’ original you wouldn’t be entirely surprised.
