Danny Tenaglia returns with ‘Futurism’, ‘The Space Dance’ and Space Ibiza residency

It seems like it has been quite a while since New York’s legendary DJ Danny Tenaglia [a] was all the talk of the dance music town, but with a new single ‘The Space Dance’, a new compilation ‘Futurism’ and his first-ever Ibiza residency at Space, it seems Danny Tenaglia could once again be on everyone’s lips this summer.

For a while Danny Tenaglia was king of the house music world and his unofficial nickname as the ‘DJ’s DJ’ showed the global respect he had amongst his peers.

But it’s been six years since Danny Tenaglia released a mix CD - he dropped the highly successful compilation ‘Back To Basics’ in 2002 - and there has been very little on the production front since.

Danny Tenaglia’s new compilation ‘Futurism’ however, shows a return to form, albeit with a fresh and updated sound.

“If you think of the word ‘techno,’ it’s just short for technology,” said Danny Tenaglia of his evolution.

“What was Kraftwerk doing? What was Larry Levan doing up in the booth, with reel-to-reel and reverb? They were being experimental.”

Danny Tenaglia is a fan of Davide Squillace

Danny Tenaglia’s new ‘Futurism’ compilation then is experimental and techno, and features minimal techno cuts from Shinedoe, Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts, Davide Squillace and Wighnomy Brothers.

In a recent interview with Beatportal he revealed that he’s a big fan of Barcelona-based producer and DJ Davide Squillace [a] and minimal producer Luca Bacchetti [a].

On ‘Futurism’, gone are the tribal drums and twisted sound that Danny Tenaglia is famous for - it’s more minimal, more techy and more, well, the sound of now.

But is this a bandwagon jump, or the development of an important electronic music artist?

Perhaps Danny Tenaglia will answer that through his new Ibiza residency at Space club in Playa D’en Bossa.

Every Thursday from July 3rd 2008, Danny will play at Space alongside special guest DJs (no guests have yet been announced), and it’s likely he will win over Ibiza’s hardcore with his new techno sound (it shouldn’t take too much persuasion).

For an example of Danny Tenaglia’s new techier sound check his single ‘The Space Dance’ [in the player below].

Featuring dark bleepy bass and wacky FX the track is underground and very techno, but it also sounds like a typical Danny Tenaglia record with its male housey hypnotic vocals.

Is the king of clubs back?
