Danny Krivit, “King of the Edit”
14 September, 2010 | 2.43AMJust a month after bringing us Walter Gibbons’ ‘Jungle Music’, a collection of the pioneering disco producer’s mixes, Strut
keeps the classic gear coming. ‘Edits by Mr. K Volume 2: Music of the Earth’ compiles ten edits of classic funk and disco by Danny Krivit
, the New York dance music icon.
Picking up where 2003’s ‘Edits by Mr. K’ left off, volume two digs into the vault to produce essential edits of songs by Philadelphia International All-Stars, Fatback Band, the Soul Searchers, and more.
With everybody and his sister a self-appointed edit specialist, thanks to the nu-disco craze and the ubiquity of Ableton Live, it’s well worth spending some time with Mr. K’s deft cuts to hear how it’s really done. Just listen to the bass-and-drums breakdown of Black Blood’s ‘Chicano’:
Blistering stuff that any fan of DJ Harvey
, Lindstrom
, Prins Thomas
, and their ilk absolutely needs to hear. And don’t forget Strut’s recent ‘Horse Meat Disco Vol 2’ while you’re at it…
