Dance floor ammo: ‘The Big Kazoo’

“The kazoo is a simple musical instrument (membranophone) that adds a “buzzing” timbral quality to a player’s voice when one hums into it.” [thanks, Wikipedia]
The little girl in the picture might be frightened of the big kazoo, but that didn’t stop Style of Eye from converting its sound into one of the best tech house thumpers on Beatport.
This outrageous tech house track was wrongly listed as ‘The Killer’ on Radio 1’s essential mix by Claude VonStroke, causing people to get rather frustrated trying to work out what it was.
I remember hearing it at Fabric, London during one of Claude’s only DJ appearances there, and it stood out head-and-shoulders above everything else he played.
Style of Eye really has clocked the sound that Claude VonStroke wants for his record labels, because you could easily mistake this for one of Claude’s own.
The beats in ‘The Big Kazoo’ are so well put together that they’re enough to make rookie tech house producers want to give up.
Perfectly-tuned 808 kicks are woven into a tight patchwork of bass, beats and bombastic samples.
Without wanting to make ‘The Big Kazoo’ sound like some sort of Mr. Kipling Cake, it really is exceedingly good, so check it out in the Beatport player below.
