Dance Anthem: Cortina ‘Music Is Moving’ (BK & dBm Amber Remix)
15 March, 2008 | 2.37PM- Section: Music News Topics: Dance Anthems
Ok don’t shoot me, but I’ve chosen a hard house record as a dance anthem. Now before you go and write me off as some day glo wearing freak with fluffy leg warmers you should hear me out.
Hard house, as much as it is difficult on the ears, has had a few good records, especially in the 2003 / 2004 era when it experienced a boom in the UK.
One of the records that defined that era was Cortina ‘Music Is Moving’.
It is the ultimate vocal hard house track, and it came out at a time when hard house wasn’t actually that hard.
The bass and beats in this are supreme thanks to BK (who almost single-handedly reinvented hard house back then).
After the Cortina-era, hard house unfortunately sped up and ended up getting so hard no one could be arsed to dance to it anymore.
But in its time, it was an instant anthem, even if it does sound a little silly now.
I think it would be a great time to debate the issue of hard house. Is it high octane music meant for kids with too much energy, or is there musical justification for its existence? Comment below!
