Rusko teams up with Cypress Hill
25 January, 2012 | 10.00AMGoing from “Cockney Thug” to straight-up West Coast gangsta, Rusko has made some new friends since his move to Southern California. Taking the next step in diversifying dubstep’s format, he’s teamed up with the iconic rap crew Cypress Hill. The upcoming project promises a five-track EP due in April, but SPIN is giving away the group’s first single for free. (Their headline? “How I Could Just Skrill A Man.” Touché, SPIN!) “Roll It, Light It” is a smoker’s anthem bridging the gap between Rusko’s festival dubstep sounds and the tested Cypress Hill formula.
At first glance, this may seem like a strange alliance, but Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs has been dabbling in dubstep for the past several years. First introducing fans to the wub-wub-wub via the group’s own Smokeout Festival, Muggs has toured his way across the US and Europe playing in the “Bass For Your Face” Tour. Collabs with artists like 6Blocc and Itchy Robot make a union with Rusko seem like the next natural progression.
Head over to Spin.com to download the new collaboration and be sure to keep an eye out for Rusko’s new solo album, due in March; for now, check out his new Mad Decent single ”Somebody To Love,” which dropped yesterday.
