Cristian Paduraru: Artist of the Week
25 September, 2007 | 12.35PM- Section: Music News
Romanian producer Cristian Paduraru has accomplished much at the young age of 28.
Paduraru is a beacon for electronic music in Romania, having issued hundreds of releases and also continually welcoming newcomers into the fold with remix opportunities on his own Christian Records.
He’s also released for several other labels and shows no signs of slowing.
We took some time to chat with him about his many accomplishments so far.
How did you first get into electronic music?
I’ve played electronic music since 1987, produced it since 1996 and have been releasing music since 2005.
What was the motivation to start Christian Records? Is there a reason why you’ve spelled the name differently than your first name?
Christian Records is my first remix label, dedicated to expose the production potential of the artists through remixing.
Cristian is my name in Romanian and Christian is the English version.
What is the electronic music scene like in Romania?
Back in the ‘90s, the best electronic movement was mainly in my resident club named Studio Martin in Bucharest.
After 2000, the scene grew a lot and known DJs were booked through various avenues.
If you were to visit Romania, you could enjoy everything from minimal and techno to electro house.
That sounds like an eye-opening way to hear some new sounds. Which artists and producers have been your biggest influences?
Jam El Mar, Josh Wink and Carl Cox.
Why did you recently decide to open up your music for remixing by fans, and what was the result?
Christian Records is the dedicated remix label to reach the world of unreleased artists with potential.
It’s amazing to see how happy they are to be involved in remixing for my label, because this is their chance to be promoted and released worldwide.
Are you still involved with creating music for television and film? How did you get into this area?
Being involved in producing for advertising agencies and soundtracks from the ‘90s was a inspiring experience!
Today, they ask me for non-exclusive licenses from time to time to use my music in various projects.
Soon, there will be some special ambient chill out tracks that will be released in upcoming months that were the result of my television and film work.
Congratulations on all of the work you’ve done so far. How does it feel to be ‘Artist of the Week’ on Beatport?
I feel grateful for all the good work Beatport does to promote my music. Thank you!
