Cratedigger Essentials: Jubei
Cratedigger Essentials: Jubei
22 December, 2011 | 11.23PMIn the class of drum & bass producers that have come up post-2005, Paul Ager’s artistry under the name Jubei stands amongst the most notable. Productions pairing him with the genre’s finest, in addition to his own solo material, have come out on labels like Metalheadz, Quarantine, Renegade Hardware, Shogun Audio, and Exit Records.
Jubei returns to the spotlight on Critical Music’s latest series, Critical Presents Sequence One. We asked Jubei to share some of the essential tunes that never leave his box; take a peek below for his surprisingly diverse list.
Doc Scott - The Unofficial Ghost
Probably one of my all-time favorite drum & bass tracks. For me it captures the sound of Metalheadz perfectly and everything I loved about the music in that era.
Dave Clarke - Red 2 (Wisdom To The Wise Mix)
An absolute classic slice of techno from Dave Clarke. I love everything about this track. The beat, the stabs and especially the lashing rides.
Jeff Mills - The Bells [Purpose Maker]
This is such an amazing tune taken from the Kat Moda EP. It has such a catchy riff that sits on top of one of the most banging beats. I was a huge Jeff Mills fan when this came out.
Gravediggaz - 1-800 Suicide
One track that always stood out for me amongst the many classics on the Niggamortis album. Reminds me of being at school, cassette tapes and Sony Walkmans.
Snoop Dogg - Ain’t No Fun (If The Homies Can’t Have None)
Taken from Snoop’s debut album Doggy Style, pretty much all the tracks from this album are classics now. This one for me was the party jam, funky as hell.
Studio Pressure (aka Photek) - The Water Margin
One of the greatest producers of our time under his Studio Pressure alias. Flexing his technical skills, just throwing breaks around like it was easy for him. Amazing track, was all about the second drop for me.
