Craig Richards presents the Nothing Special

Leave it to Craig Richards to come up with a title like “Nothing Special.”

A resident DJ at London’s Fabric—as well as its musical director—he knows not only how to bang out a peak-hour set but also, much more importantly, how not to hog the spotlight. Call him the patron saint of the opening set. His Nothing Special nights at Fabric serve a double purpose, then: as showcases for live acts, and also as proving grounds for Richards’ own versatility.

“After an eleven year residency at Fabric,” he tells the Fabric blog, “I wanted to create a night that required me to play all night around live acts, setting the scene for each one as the evening progresses. Playing a gentle deep warm up for Moritz Von Oswald, or a twitchy electro set before Dopplereffekt, or a disco set before Emperor Machine, all of which I am capable of because of the variety within my residency.”

And, we might add, the depths of his crates, which he plumbs with aplomb on Fabric 58: Two Lone Swordsmen, Melchior Productions, Gemini, Joel Mull, Conforce, Johnny Fiasco, and Maurice Fulton all rub elbows in the space of Richards’ wide-ranging mix.
