Cosmos (Remixes)
Tadeo [Apnea]

Tadeo aka Miguel Sar must have friends in high places.
The Spanish producer, who runs Cyclical Tracks, has somehow persuaded both Chain Reaction/Hardwax’s Substance and Panorama Bar resident Cassy to remix his ‘Cosmos’ release on Apnea from last year.
First up is Substance, with a reinterpretation of ‘Reflection Nebula 056n’.
Based on a deep groove, the spacey, echoed sounds lend the remix a tripped out feeling, yet it’s also dancefloor-effective – with a niggling, hissing hi-hat adding momentum to the rhythm.
This is contemporary techno music at its most precise and refined: play this alongside most minimal releases and… well, there’s just no competition.
Cassy is next with a reshape of ‘IO’.
Like her own releases for Perlon, she selects a groovy tempo – not too fast but still DJ-friendly – then locks onto a housey loop and drops a hypnotic, almost alienated-sounding vocal sample, presumably of her own voice, also set to ‘repeat’.
Its repetitive nature and somewhat out-there atmosphere is both comforting and disconcerting, and on repeated listens, Cassy’s late-night composition begins to sound closer to a house version of Burial than anything else.
Like Substance, she inhabits her own, separate cosmos.
