”Back to Earth,” the current number one track on Beatport’s trance charts, is the second single to herald the upcoming arrival of the Back 2 the Future mothership. Appropriately, “Back to Earth” also takes us back to the past: it was one of the highlights from Cosmic Gate’s 2002 album No More Sleep. Eight years ago, it was the original and S.H.O.K.K. remixes of “Back to Earth” that raised roofs and ripped up the floor tiles. Fast forward to 2010, and it’s set for a repeat performance with Bossi and Nic lining up rewires from two of the hottest production talents to break this year: Arty and Jochen Miller.

Russian production whiz kid (and recent top 100 DJ debutante) Arty is first up at the desk and, in tandem with the original’s theme, he produces his toughest rework to date. Keeping the tempo low, but ramping the tension right up, he primes the remix with a booming, pounding base. On top of that he layers sweeping chords and warm pads, before bringing it to boil at the end of the drop with a pulse-racer of a climax.

Current king of production cool Jochen Miller is up next and takes “Back To Earth” on a more progressive-thru-deep trance trip. He kick-starts the mix with the bleeping sub-synth riff, builds in swirling prog atmospheres in the mid-section, and then pays it off with those memorable vocals and tubular, floor-shocking lead-line.
