Communikey Festival: beats and bikes in Boulder
12 April, 2011 | 8.07AMBoulder, Colorado’s Communikey Festival of Electronic Arts kicks off this week, celebrating its fourth annual edition. The theme this year is “Reclaiming the Festival,” an attempt to look beyond categories like “clubs” and “parties” to explore “the spontaneous and the unexpected,” in the organizers’ words.

, Emeralds’ Mark McGuire, Mike Huckaby, William Basinski, Pulshar, Cheap & Deep with Spacetime Continuum, Levon Vincent, Latinsizer, and William Basinski top the bill, which also features films, installations, workshops, and panel discussions ranging from robotics to cultural activism.
Anyone who has been to Communikey knows that it’s not your typical festival; community, after all, is built right into its name. To that effect, the festival also places an emphasis on environmental issues, with a volunteer program (Yes, And…?) focused on the festival’s environmental footprint—including free bike rentals for invited artists.
