Be True / Satellite Type 2

Be True / Satellite Type 2

Commix [Metalheadz]

This is what drum & bass is all about – ‘Be True’ is the kind of tune you hear in a rave that prompts you to run over to the decks then harass the DJ about its name. DJ stalkers fear not, because it’s out now on Beatport for your mixing pleasure.

Expect a classic rumbling Reece bassline straight from Ray Keith’s ‘Terrorist’ that occasionally morphs into a bass bomb on the end of every few phrases.

Snappy, well-mixed beats drive the track forward, where you’ll eventually come across some excellent vocal loops not unlike the ones Timbaland uses in ‘My Love’ featuring Justin Timberlake.

What really wraps up ‘Be True’ in A-grade paper though are its drifting delay-ridden samples and textures that surround the drums and basses.

Onto the B-side – ‘Satellite Type 2’ is aptly named because its gritty, eerie vibe conjures images of a sci-fi space scene complete with Geiger aliens and dark spaceship corridors.

Sounding a bit like a Noisia number (but retaining a sense of individuality via some trademark warm pads and FX) the bassline in ‘Satellite Type 2’ is a real killer, and plunges to dirty depths with the aid of some nicely overdriven two-step drums.
