Cold Champagne
Cold Champagne
Phace [Neosignal]
8 January, 2009 | 10.27AMHaving been in the scene for some time, producing some blisteringly hard tunes for Subtitles and Vision
, Phace
and Misanthrop
have joined forces to launch their new label, Neosignal, to try and establish a stronghold of cutting-edge, neurofunk drum & bass.
The first release, ‘Cold Champagne’ is the ultimate showcase for the label’s future releases; the sound is characteristically dark and eerie but also dynamic and gut wrenchingly heavy.
Like their predecessors, Calyx
and Teebee, Phace
are paving a new wave for this techier, harder edged sound.
Obvious comparisons can be drawn to Noisia’s massive ‘Stigma’ or Calyx and Teebee’s ‘Anatomy’ album but what sets this apart is the fluidity and compression involved in the production that keeps it rolling at a steady level, whilst atmospheric chords and random beat patterns are interspersed.
With the likes of Break
and Silent Witness
making a big impact on the drum & bass scene last year, the neurofunk sound is edging its way more and more on the dancefloors; ‘Cold Champagne’ is a solid representation of it’s potentially colossal impact.
