Coldberg & Repton - “Always” - Flextone Recordings (FR0051)

Through its first 50 releases, Flextone Recordings has followed a simple blueprint: showcase a wide variety of musical styles, all served up by an international cast of producers. Their latest release, Coldberg & Repton’s “Always,” stays true to that winning formula.

The Lithuanian-born prog duo’s debut release on Flextone has a slightly orchestral feel to it, highlighted by brooding melodies and a breathy, ethereal vocal sample. Englishman A.D.T.P. steers his gorgeous re-work deeper, building it incrementally with moody pads and delicate atmospherics – an impressively polished piece of music. Leeds-based producer Simon Firth paints a frenetic collage of uptempo acid trance with his remix, while Manchester’s Funny Tangle takes a more languid approach, dialing down the pace behind loping beats and impishly throbbing synths. Finally, another U.K.-based artist – Ernest Luminor – takes two cracks at remix duties: the first an offbeat excursion into abstract electronica, the latter an ambient, percussion-free exploration of the same theme.

ADPT’s mix climbed to #14 on the Release Promo Hype chart (2/23/11), and the overall release reached #17 on mypromopool.com’s Top 100. To date it has received support from Luke Porter, Spesh, Alexx Teck, Chloe Harris and Bobby Deep, among others.
