Andomat 3000 [Cecille]
14 March, 2008 | 1.35PM- Section: Music Recommendations
Buying records can sometimes be a bit like betting on horses.
At least I imagine if I knew anything about betting on horses it might be something like this.
To bet effectively, you study the horses and watch for the consistent winners.
Some hit runs of form that last months and some maintain constant reliability for the duration of their careers.
Horse shit and stables aside, latch onto these and you’re in for a happy, endorphin raising run of racehorse gambling or indeed, record buying.
It’s unclear whether Andomat 3000 has the legs to match the pedigree of a producer like Ricardo Villlalobos, but he’s already proving to be a consistently good bet and on a current run of good form.
A former hard techno producer, he announced his new housier sensibilities via the well received collaboration EP ‘L Delay’ on Cadenza.
Now he seems to be blitzing dancefoors with killer records and remixes from every angle.
‘Vertical Smile’ is the big tune on this release.
Shades of the classic techno cut, G Man ‘Quo Vadis’ run through it and inform its timeless peaktime melodies.
‘Hominid’ is more of the same percussive, peak time techno while ‘Cicl?’ takes a more housier approach built around jazzy chords and keys.
Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets now.
