Coachella Photos: Sasha & Digweed, James Zabiela, Deadmau5 and more!

Although Coachella is shifting to more of a “hipster” crowd with its dance music acts, there certainly wasn’t a lack of big DJs at the Sahara tent this year.

Big acts on Saturday and Sunday included Sasha & John Digweed, James Zabiela, Deadmau5, Junkie XL, Above & Beyond and Danny Tenaglia, all of whom I photographed for this year.

A bit of history of my work at Coachella as well as the photos from this year after the jump!

Before I get to the pics, a little Rukes history on my Coachella experiences so far.

The first year I did Coachella it was more for the experience.

It was the last two-day long Coachella and I pretty much tried to get a feel of things to come.

I went there to mostly photograph for Kristina Sky and Gabriel & Dresden, however as everyone knows, the Daft Punk set was the one that came out of left field and knocked everyone for a loop.

I didn’t take any photos of the event as I would rather experience it as a whole, and not have to work and not pay too much attention to it.

I found a great spot just outside the tent with Bunny from Rabbit In The Moon and Trent Cantrelle as we all just kept on looking at each other every five minutes with our jaws dropped.

For my second year, I took the more “press” route and decided to photograph for Remix Magazine.

Trust me, doing three days of as many artists as the magazine needs covered is a lot of work.

I was able to balance out the hard work with some free time shooting for Paul Van Dyk that year, so it wasn’t all crazy.

For my third year at Coachella, I decided to do a more laid-back approach like I did the first year.

ames Zabiela and Deadmau5 brought me out to do their photography specifically.

Also doing the photography for Sasha & Digweed, Junkie XL and Above & Beyond often, I was all set up with a decent schedule of just dance music to work with (as well as the surprise need for pics from Danny Tenaglia).

Rather than focus on shots from the pit like just about every other photographer, having the benefit of regularly photographing for the DJs allows me stage access for my standard epic crowd shots, as well as some behind-the-scenes shots such as Sasha & Digweeds’ gear and the artist trailers.

I spent most of Day 2 with James Zabiela and most of Day 3 with Deadmau5, although we were all staying at the same hotel.

I decided to combine both days into one gallery for easier viewing.
